Maker Spotlight: tentree - 10 Trees Planted for Every Item Sold

Tentree's story starts on a hiking trip in Hawaii. In 2011, friends Kalen Emsley and David Luba were inspired by the landscape around them and came up with a simple idea: build a clothing brand that gives back to the earth with every single sale. Kalen's brother Derrick, now CEO, and their friend Stephen joined soon after, and tentree launched in 2012 out of Vancouver.

The model has stayed simple since day one: buy one item, plant ten trees. As of this year, tentree has planted over 100 million trees worldwide, working toward a stated goal of 1 billion by 2030.

Beyond the tree planting, tentree builds its clothing with low-impact fabrics like organic cotton, TENCEL, and recycled polyester. The collection leans casual and wearable: everyday tees, hoodies, joggers, dresses, and outerwear, all designed to be worn for years, not seasons.
