Maker Spotlight: Yellow Shoes - Quebec Footwear Since 1916

Yellow Shoes has a story that goes back over a century. In 1916, Samuel Avrith opened a small store on Mount Royal Street in Montreal, selling factory-sample shoes marked with yellow price tags. The concept caught on, and customers started calling him "Mr. Yellow." Eventually, he just named the store Yellow.

His son Ernest, the ninth of ten children, grew the business into a chain of 17 stores. Today, Yellow has more than 90 locations across Quebec and remains a family business, still designing footwear at home in Quebec over 100 years later.
