Maker Spotlight: Mimi & August - Reusable Candles from a Montreal Studio

Mimi & August started as two separate ideas that found each other. Founder Camille Forcherio, a designer-illustrator, began making custom swimsuits out of her parents' house under the name "Mimi Hammer." At a fashion show, she met her partner Joao, and together they launched a second label, "August," focused on everyday lifestyle goods. Before long, the two labels merged into one: Mimi & August.

Today the brand hand-pours soy candles, mixes room sprays, and hand-illustrates art prints, greeting cards, and stationery out of a workshop on Montreal's South Shore. Camille designs every single piece herself, right down to the shape of the ceramic cups the candles come in.

The candles are the heart of the collection: 100% natural soy wax, non-toxic fragrance oils, lead-free cotton wicks, and each one poured into a reusable ceramic cup Camille designed. Once the wax is gone, the cup becomes a mug, a planter, whatever you want next. Scents range from Alpes (balsam, cedar, eucalyptus) to Montreal (dark rose, palo santo, amber) to cozy seasonal ones like Bonfire and Foresta.

Beyond candles, the collection includes room sprays, wax melts, a ceramic aromatic diffuser, illustrated enamel pins, art prints, and greeting cards, all carrying the same soft, hand-drawn style that runs through everything Camille makes.
